"Wizkid" Did The Weeknd steal singer’s name for his new album “Starboy”?

Image
Wizkid's name "Starboy" is now the new album titled for US singer The Weeknd. Coincidence or jacking? How sad. We reject it. We protest it. Heck, we even hate it. And here’s why. Nigeria has our own Starboy. We have watched it grow from just a whisper to a household name. One that we have all come to love, appreciate and connect with. When  Wizkid  decided to alter his business arrangement with Banky W’s EME, there was little to stop him. He raved, ranted, gave juicy scoops to journalists, and flatly refused to be under the banner that discovered and groomed him to this point. He was right. Afterall, the brand Wizkid had become bigger than EME, and needed space to fly independently, free from the hassles and restrictive red tapes of an organized record label. He was successful, achieved part-freedom, and struck a deal with the his bosses, which allowed him begin work on a new record label. That record label would be founded, announced and infused into all of Wizk

The Mavin first lady lets in on her background and how her crush for a boy led into discovering her love for music. Tiwa Savage speaks with Vibe Magazine on her background, music, growth, deal with Roc Nation and much more. She delves into her background and upbringing, and how her crush for a boy at school who used to hang around musicians, dancers and the cool kids ultimately led her to discover she could make a career out of music. “ I played trombone. Don’t ask me if I still play [laughs], but I literally picked it up because I had a crush on a boy in high school. He used to hang around with the cool kids, the musicians and dancers.” She chuckles to herself as she recalls how it all started. “Here I was: this kid fresh from Nigeria, strong accent, my mom shaved my hair off. I tried to get his attention. I went to this music teacher and said that I really wanted to do music. He looked to the corner of the room and said the trombone was the only instrument left. I picked it

Barcelona star Lionel Messi out for three weeks

Image
Barcelona star Lionel Messi will be sidelined for the next three weeks due to a groin strain, dealing a huge blow to his club and country. “To lose Lionel Messi means football loses and we lose,” said Barca boss Luis Enrique. Messi limped off just before the hour mark of the Spanish champions’ 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. The Argentine captain is set to miss his country’s World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Paraguay next month as well as Barca’s Champions League clash at Borussia Moenchengladbach. Messi will also sit on the Catalans’ La Liga trips to Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo. However, Messi should be fit in time for a reunion with old boss Pep Guardiola when Manchester City visit the Camp Nou on Champions League duty on October 19. The five-time World Player of the Year missed Argentina’s World Cup qualifier with Venezuela earlier this month due to the problem and only started Barca’s shock 2-1 defeat to Alaves 10 days ago on the bench as coach Luis Enrique bed

Ivan Rakitic headed Barca into the lead just before half-time, but Angel Correa slotted home on the hour mark just seconds after Messi limped off to hand Atletico a deserved point. Earlier, Real Madrid’s record-equalling 16-game La Liga win streak came to an end as Villarreal drew 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu. Madrid continue to lead Barca by three points at the top of the table with Atletico a further point back in fourth. Sevilla, who beat Real Betis on Tuesday, remain in second place. “To lose Lionel Messi means football loses and we lose,” said Barca boss Luis Enrique. “Now we have to look for other solutions. With Leo we are much stronger, but without him we are still a strong team.” Messi is set to mi

Man Utd poor form: Mourinho slams critics

Image
Jose Mourinho Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has hit back at the “football Einsteins” who have criticised him during the club’s recent run of three straight defeats. United stopped the rot with a 3-1 win over third-tier Northampton Town in the third round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday after losing to Manchester City, Feyenoord and Watford in the past week. “I know that some football Einsteins –- football is full of Einsteins –- I know that they tried to delete 16 years of my career,” Mourinho told MUTV, United’s in-house television station. “They tried to delete an unbelievable history of Man United football club and to focus on a bad week with three bad results. But that’s the new football –- it’s full of Einsteins,” the Portuguese added. “I can understand clearly the disappointment if the fans are disappointed with the last week,” said Mourinho, who previously coached European football giants Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid “I understand completely but I’m sur

Woah! Singer, The Weeknd Finally Cuts His Famous Hair (Photo)

Singer The Weeknd has cut his famous locked hair and this is causing outrage on social media. Yesterday, the ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ singer took to his Twitter to share the photo of himself in a new clean cut, lock-less hair. “I come alive in the fall time,” the Canadian star said, unveiling his brand new album, ‘Starboy’. And the combination of this sent social media on a meltdown. The post has garnered over 70,000 likes and over 60,000 retweets, and fans who had fallen in love with his sculpture-like dreadlocks are unable to wrap their minds around this rebranded pop star. The outrage brings to mind when Toronto rapper Drake shaved his beard and broke the damn internet; to many of his fans, his remarkable feature, including hair, make up the brand they had fallen in love with. And so, for any artiste to change a certain identity marker is like pulling the rug from under their fans’ feet. Hence, the outrage over The Weeknd’s new look. Check out the new face of the singe
